MIDLIFE(+) Transition

Midlife   —  when  it  is,   what  it  means  and  how  it  happens  changes  over  time;   it  is  both  generational  and  particular  to  each  of  us.  We  are  most  likely  of  living  very  different  lives  than  our  parents;  our  hopes  and  visions  for  our  future  selves  may  be  different  than  theirs  and  also  unclear  to  ourselves.  During the second  half  of  our  life  we  generally  experience  changes  in  our  values,  priorities,  roles,  expectations,  and  health.  Changes  occur  in  what  it  means  to:   work;  retire;  be  a  parent;   be  a  child  to  aging  parents;  be  physically  active;  be  a  friend;   be  healthy;  to  love.    Changes  occur  in  our  lifestyle,  caregiving,  home, downsizing,  body  needs,  limitations, opportunities,  constraints, and  preferences.

What  is  next  for  your  physical,  mental,  emotional,  social,  familial,  vocational,  and  spiritual  life?

Thurman   reminds  us  that  what  the  world  needs  is  people  who  have  come  alive.     As  you  search for  a  new  way  forward,  one  that  makes  you  come  alive,  one  with  joy  and  purpose,   that  meets  your  needs  and advances  your  new  life  wellness,  coaching  can  help.   What   new  paths  do  you  want  to  explore?    Where  do  you  want  to  grow?  What  is  next  for  you?  What will  lay  claim  to  your  heart  and  life,  to  your  hours  and  days? What  do  you  need  to  show  up  for  yourself.

My approach to transition & wellness coaching

Coaching is a relatively new profession with a long history.   In  coaching I work along side people in a  process of discovery,  action, and hope that helps convey them from where they are to where they want to be. Coaching is a process of both "being" and "doing".  The "being" process involves contemplation, reflection, awareness and discovery; this leads to the "doing" process of action and movement.  Life  coaching  is  all  about  you.  I  take  an  evidence-based,  wholistic  and  contextualized  approach.  The coaching profession has training, certification, professional standards, ongoing research, and credentialing. Yet it is not regulated by a state agency. So anyone can call themselves a coach. I have professional training, am  certified and credentialed, engage in ongoing continuing education, and abide by the ethical standards of the profession.

During coaching....

LIfe  coaching  is  not  therapy.  We  don’t  go  back  into  the  past  to  fix  it.   We start  with  the  belief  that  you  are  capable. With coaching, you  are  free  to   dream  openly  with  a  committed,  non-judgmental  and  skilled  listener  and  coach.  Coaching  serves  as  a  catalyst  to  change  that  feels  right  to  you.  We  partner  together  to    help  you  gain clarity, generate a way forward, and find the momentum  and  hope you  need  to  create  the  life  you  want  to  live,  in  the  context  of  your  own  experiences,  circumstances,  values, responsibilities and opportunities.  I  bring   presence, safety  and  evidence-based  approaches  informed  by  20+  years  exploring  women’s  health   and  wellness, and ongoing personal growth and learning,  to  facilitate  the  process.

How long does it take?

Like most things, it depends.  It depends on where you are now, how far you have to go, your commitment to the process, your time availability, and your resources.  It‘s really up to you.  It’s not about breaking the bank. It‘s about showing up for  yourself so you can move from where you are to where you want to be.

Don’t  ask  what  the  world  needs.  Ask  what  makes  you  come  alive  and  go  do  it.  Because  what  the  world  needs  is  people  who  have  come  alive  (Howard  Thurman)
